How is a Breast Lift Different from Breast Implants?

A breast lift focuses on improving the appearance of your existing breasts by lifting and reshaping your natural breast tissue. Implants only add additional volume but they don’t change the placement of the breast on your body. A breast lift can enhance the appearance of your figure without the need for artificial implants.* This procedure can be combined with a traditional breast augmentation for more comprehensive results.

Am I a Candidate for a Breast Lift?

If you have noticed a change in the volume or fullness of your breasts following pregnancy, nursing or weight loss, you may be a good candidate for a breast lift. The ideal candidates will be those who are in good health both physically and mentally and maintain realistic expectations about the outcome of their procedure.

Should I Include Breast Augmentation with My Breast Lift?

Although a breast lift by itself won’t increase the existing size of your breasts, many women are very happy with the results of a breast lift alone, as their natural breast tissue will be lifted and reshaped for a younger, sexier look.* For our patients who want to boost their cup size as well as enjoy the improved placement of their breasts, it is common to includebreast implants orfat injection into the breasts at the same time as a lift. Including augmentation with implants or fat injection along with your breast lift is a personal decision that you and our Beverly Hills breast surgeon can discuss together.

What Conditions are Improved by a Breast Lift?

Ptosis or droopy breasts are the most common reason for a breast lift. This occurs when breasts appear saggy as a result of changes in the body due to age, pregnancy or the effects of gravity over time. Our competent surgeons can restore breasts to a higher, more youthful placement through breast lift surgery.*

Loss of firmness can also be improved with breast lift surgery. Age causes changes in the fatty breast tissue, resulting in a loss of firmness. During a breast lift, your breast tissue is reshaped to improve texture as well as appearance.*

Finally, if your breasts and areolae face downward rather than front and center or if your nipples and areolae seem overly large in comparison to your breast, our breast lift surgery can reduce and reposition them for an improved aesthetic.*

What Can I Expect During Recovery?

Most women feel sore at first, accompanied by swelling. You can expect to be in discomfort for the first few days, although this will vary depending on the type of incisions used and whether or not an augmentation was included as part of your procedure. The majority of our patients are able to return to work after a week or two.*

What Kind of Results Can I Expect?

After your surgery, your breasts will feel firmer, look fuller, and rest higher on your chest.* The nipples will be centered and proportionate to the rest of the breast. If you have had augmentation using breast implants or fat injection with your breast lift, you will notice that your breasts are dramatically increased in size as well as changed in placement.* Women who choose breast reduction combined with a breast lift will notice that their breasts are smaller, firmer and higher compared to before surgery.*

Should I Worry About Scarring?

Our breast surgeons make every effort to ensure that your final results are as beautiful as possible. We use the newest techniques available during your breast lift surgery to limit the size and appearance of incisions following surgery, although this does depend on the level of correction needed and whether or not implants were used during your procedure. Using multiple layers of internal stitching following your procedure also helps minimize scar appearance during the healing process. Most women feel that the beautiful final results outweigh any concerns over visible scars.*

Are My Results Permanent?

A breast lift is a permanent procedure. However, even though your results will be long lasting, no surgery is able to permanently stop the aging process. Your breasts will continue to be affected by aging and gravity even after your procedure, although your new figure will continue to look more youthful for longer than without surgery.*
