Am I a Candidate for Breast Reduction?

There is a common misconception that only women with very large breasts should consider breast reduction. However, any woman who is in good physical and emotional health whose breasts are disproportionate to the rest of her frame may be a good candidate for breast reduction.

Will My Health Insurance Pay for My Breast Reduction Surgery?

If your enlarged breasts are causing you problems such as neck pain, back pain, or rashes under the breasts, your health insurance will likely cover your surgery. We encourage you to contact our Beverly Hills breast surgery center to allow us to verify your insurance coverage.

Should I Include a Breast Lift with My Breast Reduction?

Skin in younger women with good elasticity can contract to fit a smaller breast volume after small to moderate breast reductions by liposuction alone. In older women with some loss of skin elasticity, a breast reduction often includes a breast lift since just removing excess skin and tissue may not be enough to give you the firmer, more youthful contours that you want. A breast lift can really bring out the best in your reduction procedure.*

What Conditions are Improved with a Breast Reduction?

The primary reasons why most of our patients consider our breast reduction surgery include experiencing secondary health issues like back pain, neck pain, grooving on the shoulders, and skin irritation. Moreover, some women also experience suffering from low self-esteem and other emotional distress due to their breast size.

What Can I Expect During Recovery?

Our patients feel sore and uncomfortable following surgery. Their breasts may also be swollen. Your recovery time may vary depending on the surgical method used for your procedure and the level of correction needed, but most women find that they are able to return to work and light activities over the next week or two.

When Will I See Results?

You will notice that your breasts look smaller immediately after surgery, although your final results will initially be disguised by bandages and swelling. Most women see significant results by a few weeks after surgery, with improvements continuing for the next several weeks.

What Kind of Results Can I Expect?

Your figure should look more proportionate with your breasts sitting higher on the chest. Your nipples will be centered and your areolae will be resized if needed. Most women also notice that their breasts feel firmer and look perkier and more youthful following their breast reduction.*

Over time, you should notice an improvement in back, neck, and shoulder pain after your breasts are reduced, as well as an improvement in any friction-related skin conditions. The majority of women report that they feel more positive about their bodies following breast reduction.

Should I Worry About Scarring?

Our breast surgeons make every effort to ensure that your final results are as beautiful as possible. We use the most modern surgical techniques available to limit the size and appearance of incisions following your breast reduction procedure, although methods will vary depending on the level of correction needed. Using multiple layers of internal stitching following your procedure also helps minimize scar appearance during the healing process. Most of our patients, however, feel that the beautiful final results outweigh any concerns over visible scars.

What about Scarless Breast Reduction?

Scarless breast reduction refers to reduction surgery performed through liposuction alone. Although liposuction can remove excess fat in the breasts, this procedure by itself will not correct the position of the breasts or remove any glandular tissue. Most women need the combination approach that a full breast reduction and breast lift procedure offers for the best results.

Are My Results Permanent?

Our breast reduction is a permanent procedure. However, even when combined with a breast lift, your breasts will still be affected by the impact of age and gravity over time. Your new figure should retain its youthful, lifted appearance for longer than if you had not had surgery, and better resist the effects of aging for longer as well.
